Classes to learn and practice future society design methods (“Practice for Designing Future Sosiety ” and ” Special Practice for Designing Future Society “) were held for 8 weeks from December 6, 2023, for students from all departments and majors at Kyushu University.
This practice was conducted as a joint research between YKK Corporation, YKK AP Inc, and our university. With the aim of envisioning a new scenario for a future society in which CO2 capture and conversion technology is implemented, students with diverse expertise formed five teams to come up with ideas, create scenarios, and design products and services. Professor Yoshito Ogata, sub-leader of the think tank unit, and Professor Eizo Okada, design director, provided guidance.
In the first class, Professor Shigenori Fujikawa of the Decarbonization Unit gave a lecture titled “Moonshot Technology and its Future for Realizing a Beyond Zero Society.” YKK Corporation and YKK AP Inc also introduced their businesses.
In the second class, students presented their ideas and formed teams. After that, each team explored new ways to utilize CO2 capture and conversion technology. After narrowing down multiple scenario proposals to one, they decided on a scenario. They proceeded to materialize and visualize their scenarioes.
On February 7, 2024, the last day of class, all teams presented their own future society scenarios and designs and received feedback.
We plan to present the results of the class through on-campus exhibitions and other formats, and share them widely.
