Held Integrated Initiative for Designing Future Society & Data-Driven Innovation Initiative JOINT SYMPOSIUM 2024

On September 3rd, 2024 (Tuesday), Kyushu University held the Integrated Initiative for Designing Future Society & Data-Driven Innovation Initiative JOINT SYMPOSIUM 2024 at the Ito Campus INAMORI Center and online. Approximately 180 participants, including representatives from companies, local governments, and universities from both inside and outside the campus, attended the event.

First, President Ishibashi, the general manager of both headquarters, gave opening remarks, and Mr. Michiaki Uryu, Chairman and Representative Director of Kyushu Electric Power Company, gave a speech as guest of honor.
The next speaker, Professor Yukari Takamura of the Center for Future Vision Research at the University of Tokyo, gave an online lecture entitled “Social Change and Challenges Toward Building a Sustainable Future Society.

Next, Professor Akihito Ozaki of the Graduate School of Human Environment Studies and Associate Professor Andrew Chapman of the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research introduced their initiatives under the theme of “Decarbonization at Kyushu University”.

In the afternoon, a poster session was held in which faculty, staff, and students of Kyushu University presented their initiatives and ideas for solving social issues, and a lively Q&A session was held between the poster presenters and participants.

The final round of the “Ideas and Proposals Contest 2024 for Solving Social Issues” was also held, where two young researchers and seven student groups who had won the preliminary rounds gave presentations on the social issues they wanted to solve and their original research and ideas for solving them.

The panel discussion featured five faculty members from the university and Ms. Manami Imai, Assistant Secretary General of the Fukuoka Directive Council(FDC).After a presentation by Design Director Eizo Okada on the “Draft Proposal for Realizing a Decarbonized Society,” which is currently being formulated in collaboration between the Think Tank Unit and the Decarbonization Unit of the Integrated Initiative for Designing Future Society, participants exchanged opinions on measures to realize the contents of the draft proposal.

After that, Associate Professor Shuntaro Tsubaki of the Graduate School of Agricultural Science and Professor Yoichi Tomiura of the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering introduced their initiatives.

The winners of the poster session and the Ideas and Proposals Contest 2024 for solving social issues were also selected by a judging vote, and an award ceremony was held.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Provost and Vice President Aratono, Vice President of the Integrated Initiative for Designing Future Society.
