On Saturday, September 12, a special session titled “Rethinking Ambulance Use” was held at the 44th Annual Meeting of the Fukuoka Association for Acute Medicine. During the session, the Design Practice Group of the Think Tank Unit and the Future of Medicine Group of the Medicine and Health Unit, both part of the Initiative for Designing Future Society (In2FS), presented their latest research findings and initiatives.
The presentations introduced a range of initiatives aimed at addressing challenges in emergency medical care. These included an analysis of approximately 500,000 ambulance dispatch records from Fukuoka City; data-driven simulations exploring new possibilities for emergency medical services; research on patient transportation using private ambulance services in collaboration with local healthcare providers; and clinical epidemiological studies utilizing health checkup and municipal data.
Following the presentations, a panel discussion examined current challenges in emergency medicine and the potential of digital transformation (DX) and data integration to enable more seamless and efficient emergency care systems. The panelists exchanged views on a variety of transportation options, including alternatives to ambulance services, as well as ways to effectively share and utilize data to support healthcare professionals working on the front lines of emergency care.
Through continued collaboration with local governments, healthcare providers, and private-sector partners, we will work to address social challenges through “Integrative Knowledge”. By fostering these collaborative activities and developing educational initiatives, we aim to contribute to addressing social challenges and creating a better future for society.
