over long cultivation periods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Overview<\/h2>\n<p>In the realization of data\u2011driven precision agriculture and smart farming, it is essential to accurately understand crop growth conditions. While monitoring technologies for visible above\u2011ground plant parts\u2014such as leaves, stems, and fruits\u2014have been well developed, technologies targeting roots have remained limited to laboratory\u2011scale experiments.<\/p>\n<p>A research group comprising <strong>Mr. Jin Ziyi<\/strong>, a doctoral student at the Graduate School of Bioresource and Bioenvironmental Sciences, Kyushu University; <strong>Associate Professor Daisuke Yasutake<\/strong> of the Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University; and researchers from the <strong>IoP Co\u2011Creation Center at Kochi University<\/strong> and the <strong>Graduate School of Sciences and Technology for Innovation, Yamaguchi University<\/strong>, has developed a new technology to estimate root dry matter weight.<\/p>\n<p>In this method, part of a hydroponic cultivation system is replaced with <strong>transparent materials<\/strong>, enabling observation of the entire root system.
