Albrecht\u6559\u6388\u304a\u3088\u3073\u30a2\u30a6\u30af\u30b9\u30d6\u30eb\u30af\u5927\u5b66\u306eWolfgang Br\u00fctting\u6559\u6388\u306e\u6307\u5c0e\u306e\u3082\u3068\u3001\u30c9\u30a4\u30c4\u30fb\u30a2\u30a6\u30af\u30b9\u30d6\u30eb\u30af\u5927\u5b66\u306b\u3066\u7814\u7a76\u6ede\u5728\u3092\u884c\u3044\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002\u4e3b\u306bBr\u00fctting\u7814\u7a76\u5ba4\u306eDr. Albin Cakaj\u306e\u5b9f\u9a13\u6307\u5c0e\u306e\u3082\u3068\u3067\u7814\u7a76\u3092\u9032\u3081\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u3053\u306e\u6ede\u5728\u306e\u76ee\u7684\u306f\u3001\u30a2\u30e2\u30eb\u30d5\u30a1\u30b9\u6709\u6a5f\u8584\u819c\u306b\u304a\u3051\u308b\u81ea\u767a\u7684\u914d\u5411\u5206\u6975\uff08SOP\uff09\u306e\u7814\u7a76\u3092\u6df1\u3081\u308b\u3053\u3068\u3067\u3057\u305f\u3002SOP\u306f\u3001\u6709\u6a5f\u5149\u96fb\u5b50\u30c7\u30d0\u30a4\u30b9\u306e\u5185\u90e8\u96fb\u5834\u3084\u96fb\u8377\u6ce8\u5165\u52b9\u7387\u306b\u5927\u304d\u306a\u5f71\u97ff\u3092\u4e0e\u3048\u308b\u73fe\u8c61\u3067\u3059\u3002\u672c\u7814\u7a76\u3067\u306f\u3001\u5206\u5b50\u69cb\u9020\u3001\u6210\u819c\u901f\u5ea6\u3001\u6e29\u5ea6\u304c\u914d\u5411\u8a98\u8d77\u8868\u9762\u30dd\u30c6\u30f3\u30b7\u30e3\u30eb\u306e\u5f62\u6210\u306b\u3069\u306e\u3088\u3046\u306b\u95a2\u4e0e\u3059\u308b\u304b\u3092\u7406\u89e3\u3057\u3001\u3053\u308c\u3089\u306e\u5fae\u8996\u7684\u5206\u6975\u52b9\u679c\u3092\u5b9f\u7528\u7684\u306a\u30c7\u30d0\u30a4\u30b9\u5fdc\u7528\u306b\u6d3b\u7528\u3059\u308b\u53ef\u80fd\u6027\u3092\u63a2\u308a\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n<p>\u307e\u305f\u3001\u65e5\u3005\u306e\u6280\u8853\u7684\u306a\u8b70\u8ad6\u3084\u6e2c\u5b9a\u7d50\u679c\u306e\u6bd4\u8f03\u3092\u901a\u3058\u3066\u3001\u4e5d\u5dde\u5927\u5b66Albrecht\u7814\u7a76\u5ba4\u3068\u30a2\u30a6\u30af\u30b9\u30d6\u30eb\u30af\u5927\u5b66Br\u00fctting\u7814\u7a76\u5ba4\u3068\u306e\u9023\u643a\u3092\u5f37\u5316\u3059\u308b\u3053\u3068\u3082\u3067\u304d\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n<hr My work was mainly carried out under the experimental guidance of Dr. Albin Cakaj in the Br\u00fctting Group. The purpose of this stay was to deepen my study of spontaneous orientation polarization (SOP) in amorphous organic thin films\u2014an effect that can strongly influence the internal electric field and charge-injection efficiency of organic optoelectronic devices. The project aimed to understand how molecular structure, deposition rate, and temperature determine the formation of orientation-induced surface potentials, and how these microscopic polarization effects could be utilized for practical device applications. Besides the experiments, this stay also helped to build a closer connection between the Albrecht Group in Kyushu and the Br\u00fctting Group in Augsburg through daily technical discussions and comparison of measurement results.<\/p>\n<p>Photo 1: The KP tip positioned close to the sample surface during measurement.<\/p>\n<p>During the stay, a series of thin films were prepared by thermal evaporation and analyzed using multiple complementary techniques. Kelvin-probe (KP) measurements were performed on silicon substrates to evaluate the giant surface potential (GSP) as a function of film thickness and deposition temperature (Photo 1: The KP tip positioned close to the sample surface during measurement). Distinct temperature-dependent behavior was observed: at low deposition temperatures, certain amorphous films showed large positive potential gradients exceeding roughly 150 mV nm\u207b\u00b9, whereas at elevated substrate temperatures the orientation almost disappeared. These findings confirmed that the direction and magnitude of SOP can be tuned by the kinetic conditions during film formation. In parallel, ellipsometry was used to characterize the optical constants (<em>n<\/em>, <em>k<\/em>) and to explore how molecular orientation affects refractive-index anisotropy (Photo 2). The same setup, equipped with a heating stage for glass-transition (Tg) analysis, revealed that the materials remained amorphous up to about 130\u2013150 \u00b0C, and that molecular mobility at higher temperatures led to partial relaxation of orientation polarization. In addition to the isomeric compounds used as reference systems, I also examined a dendrimer-type material possessing a higher Tg and excellent thermal durability. Its deposition required crucible temperatures around 400 \u00b0C, which provided useful insight into how molecular rigidity and branching influence film morphology and the stability of built-in polarization. Despite its bulky structure, the dendrimer film still showed a measurable, stable potential gradient (Photo 3\u20134), suggesting that high-Tg materials can sustain SOP if the molecular dipoles are appropriately arranged. To further verify the effect of orientation polarization on optical and electronic behavior, I fabricated bilayer structures and performed photoluminescence (PL) and angle-dependent PL (ADPL) measurements on films deposited on glass substrates (Photo 4). These complementary experiments helped me understand how SOP correlates with light-emission directionality and interface energetics. Throughout the experiments, careful attention was paid to film uniformity, reproducibility, and data consistency so that the results obtained in Augsburg could be directly compared with those measured previously in Fukuoka. Scientifically, it broadened my understanding of how physical measurements link molecular design to macroscopic device performance. Through daily discussions with Dr. Albin Cakaj and regular feedback from Prof. Br\u00fctting, I learned how to interpret subtle changes in Kelvin-probe data, connect ellipsometric parameters to molecular orientation, and evaluate experimental reliability across different instruments. The well-equipped laboratory environment allowed me to explore various techniques\u2014such as impedance analysis, optical modeling, and temperature-controlled deposition\u2014that I had only partially used before in Japan. This experience will be highly valuable as I continue my doctoral research in the Albrecht Group. Outside the laboratory, living in Augsburg gave me practical experience in adapting to a new culture and language. The warm support of group members made everyday life much easier and more enjoyable. Communicating in English about both science and daily matters also helped me gain confidence in working within an international research environment. Looking ahead, I plan to extend the collaboration established during this stay toward device-level studies that directly link SOP strength with current\u2013voltage behavior and emission stability.
