It is organized primarily by the Marine Science Group within the Environment and Food Unit and is conducted throughout the year. Starting this fiscal year, the meeting has been continued under the framework of the Social Impact Framework (SIF), as part of the Environmental Plastics Research Complex (EPReC) \u2014 a social implementation\u2013oriented research and development program launched by the FS.<\/p>\n<p>For this session, we were honored to have Professor Won Joon Shim (Department of Marine Environmental Engineering, Gyeongsang National University, Republic of Korea) deliver a lecture titled \u201cGeneration of Microplastics from Marine-Based Sources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Professor Shim\u2019s group conducts comprehensive analyses of microplastics released into the ocean, combining laboratory experiments with modeling efforts to predict release dynamics. Multiple teams are engaged in studying marine microplastics, and their work has produced scientifically impactful results. These findings are expected to make significant contributions to policy making as well.<\/p>\n<p>In Japan, it is increasingly important for industry, government, and academia to work together to address this issue.
