\nOn Friday, February 7, 2025, the 4th Think Tank Unit Research Seminar was held at Ohashi Campus. Many people participated both in person and online.<\/p>\n

The Think Tank Unit aims to solve social issues by adding design knowledge to diverse fields of natural science and humanities\/social sciences, designing ideal future societies, and proposing solutions and process designs for various social challenges.<\/p>\n

For the 4th research seminar, we invited Ms. Miho Hashimoto, a renowned interpreter, who gave a lecture on the theme “What is Creativity in Interpretation?”\u00a0While explaining her numerous experiences as a business interpreter and showcasing their skills, Hashimoto stated, “In addition to ‘perspective,’ which captures and interprets different cultural backgrounds and values, ‘creativity’ is important to create translations that resonate across cultural barriers.”<\/p>\n

During the final cross-talk, Mr. Muneo Wakabayashi (Director of the Kyushu Interpreters, Translators and Guides Association (General Incorporated Association)\/Specially Appointed Professor, Graduate School of Project Design) commented, “I was encouraged by the message that ‘there is not just one correct answer.’ I felt that Hashimoto\u2019s greatness lies in enjoying the process of contemplating how a single English word can be translated into various Japanese expressions.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, Professor Akira Omoto (Think Tank Unit Leader) expressed gratitude saying, “From the lecture, I learned that in interdisciplinary settings, creative thinking requires boldness, sensitivity, and thorough preparation to support these qualities. I would like to consider Hashimoto\u2019s concept of <\/span>\u2018creative translation \/ leap translation\u2019 when engaging with people from different fields at the Integrated Initiative for Designing Future Society.”<\/span><\/p>\n
