\nThe 7th ocean plastics research seminar in Environmental and Food Unit was held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.<\/p>\n

Aim of this research seminar is to exchange information on marine plastic research, organized by the Marine Science Group of the Environment and Food Unit.<\/p>\n

In the first part\u3001Associate professor Naoya Katsumi had a talk entitled \u201cOccurrence of microplastics in agricultural land and migration to ocean areas\u201d. In this talk, it was introduced that large amount of capsules containing nitrogen fertilizer were accumulated in paddy fields, and part of them was leaked out to ocean through the river. To promote this research covering Environment and Food production, continuous discussion by researcher in variety of fields will be needed.
\nIn the next part, Dr. Yuji Oshima (Specially appointed professor, Kyushu University) had a talk entitled \u201cImpact of microplastics on aquatic organisms and problems with evaluation\u201d. He showed the strange behavior of fish after exposure to microplastics. We had many questions from floor and online and opportunity to discuss about this problem. Recent several reports indicated that microplastics were accumulated inside for human, and other organisms. We must continue to check this problem.<\/p>\n
